Sometimes I think Dave and I are getting old and boring; a fun Saturday night for us is a sack of tacos and a double feature at the drive in. This week, however, Dave received an invitation to a coworker's promotion party where he assured that there would be midget strippers.
Yes, I said midget strippers.
I don't think that is an invitation we would have taken at any age or point in our lives. People are weird?
Last weekend, I went to Dave's place for the weekend. His unit was out in the field and he had to be around just in case. Saturday we went to see "Race to Witch Mountain" with The Rock (I'm sorry, he'll never be Dwayne Johnson, he's The Rock) and I thought I was going to have to punch two little old ladies. The theater was full of kids and these two ladies sitting behind us were the obnoxious ones. They were just talking like they were in their own living room. Once I turned around and gave them the "will you just shut up" look and they were completely unashamed! The best part is late in the movie a baby started crying somewhere in the theater and the baby's Mom got up right away and took the baby outside. One of the ladies behind us said (in a normal volume) "I can't believe they brought a baby to the theater. How RUDE!" I almost choked on my popcorn from the irony.
Sunday afternoon we were relaxing in the trailer, wearing our sweats and jammies, watch a movie when we were evacuated! PMO had found an old ammo can down by the lake and thought it was "a suspicious package". Hmmm....if I managed to sneak in something dangerous on a Marine Corp base, I have to say that down by the lake's edge, on a Sunday night on an off holiday weekend when the park is close to empty is NOT where I would place it to do the maximum damage! Luckily I thought to grab my purse, when "just a bit" rolled into an hour we pulled my car around and sat in it until EOD arrived. Some other camper had already come by and said "that ammo can has been there for days" so we assumed that EOD would look at it and let us all go back to our trailers. BUT NO, EOD decided to blow it! Why pass up a perfectly good opportunity to blow something up? By this time we're hungry, but we can't go inside anywhere because we're not dressed for it. So we cruise through a drive through out in town, got food, and came back and they were still messing around with it!
Finally about 3 hours after we were "evacuated" EOD discovered it was an ammo can filled with sand, welded shut. It was probably someone's fishing stool or work out tool. Imagine if you left your fishing stool and came back to fish again and EOD had blown it up!
This was the first time that I had left Scout since she came to live with us, so I figured that she would be irritated when I came home. My friend Joni stopped by on Sunday night and gave her a can of wet food and visited with her for a while, so I thought that would have helped; but when I walked in the door on Monday, that was one upset kitty cat! She cried like she had been alone for MONTHS! I spent some time petting her and talking to her, but when I got ready to leave for work, she sat at the door and cried as I left. It was enough to break your heart! Then when I came home for lunch, she did the same thing. It's been 5 days and she still has to keep an eye on where I am...poor kitty has abandonment issues!
We're getting new furniture! The couch that we have was used hard before we got it, ugly as sin but it works. The plan was to use it until we moved, then dump it and get something new when we moved. That was back when the plan was only another year or so until we moved home. But now that the economy has taken a huge dump and it looks like it's going to be 3 or 4 years until Dave retires, I've decided that I can't live with this ugliness that long.
I want to keep our money local, but the furniture store here in town that does business with me at the newspaper is pretty small. Nothing that I've seen on her showroom has tickled my fancy. Nancy, the owner, told me that I could go on Ashley's website and find what I wanted, but with furniture, you want to see it and sit on it. So last weekend we found a huge Ashley store in Oceanside and picked out a whole new living room set and a cute dining room set as well. I got all the product numbers and gave them to Nancy and she ordered it for us. So around the 20th, we'll have all new furniture. I'm very excited.
So that's been my last week: midget strippers, rude old ladies, exploding ammo cans, and new furniture.
